This is an excellant card. I love it. I'm not going to retype the detail spec of the card here. If you really want to know all the detail, go to the Official MGA Millennium Sales Brochure Page from Matrox.
If you want to have the hardware accelerated AVI & MPEG playback without the MPEG daugter board, the card require you to run it in either 16bit or 32bit mode. In English, with 4MB of WRAM, you can have up to 1152x864 with 32bits color or you can have up to 1600x1200 with 16bits color. Although running it with 24bits color can go up to 1280x1024, the hardware accerarated video playback will NOT work in this mode. In conclusion, if you need more than high color AND more than 1152x864, get 8MB of WRAM.
| Color Mode | Maximum Resolution | Video Acceleration |
| 16 bits | 1600x1024 | Yes |
| 24 bits | 1280x1024 | No |
| 32 bits | 1152x864 | Yes |
If you're thinking of getting a daugter board for hardware MPEG playback or TV tuner, think about if you'll need more video RAM later. Since you can have only one daugter board plug in at a time, if you need to add more video RAM later, you'll have to give up the other daugter board. Please note that there are also some other limitations if you have the MPEG daugter board installed. Make sure you also check out my MPEG daugter board page.
